Andrology is the study of the functions and diseases specific to men, especially of the reproductive organs. In other words it’s the same as gynaecology in women.
Andrology Australia (The Australian Centre of Excellence in Male Reproductive Health) provides resources and education to the community and health professionals on disorders of the male reproductive health system and associated conditions.
Operating nationally since 2000, the program aims to improve and promote men’s health, with a particular focus on testicular cancer, male infertility, androgen abuse (steroids), prostate problems (prostate enlargement, prostatitis, prostate cancer), sexual dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction, and testosterone deficiency.
Men’s health experts from across Australia contribute to program activity and information development to ensure best practice and evidence-based information is available. As well as providing quality information, the program also supports important research in men’s health that underpins education activities.
Andrology Australia is funded by a grant from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. Additional funding raised by the annual ‘Merv’s Have a Crack Day’ event will be used to fund community programs to further raise awareness of men’s health.
All Andrology Australia resources are available at no cost and can be downloaded or ordered on line at www.andrologyaustralia.org or phone 1300 303 878.
